Numisteria was created to give new and everyday collectors clear, practical information they can actually use. Instead of overwhelming you with terminology and technical details, we explain coins in plain language and help you become a more confident collector.

My interest in coins started when I was a kid.

Like many collectors, I was fascinated by the idea that something as ordinary as a coin could have a story behind it. Where had it been? How old was it? Why were some coins worth more than others? And what made one coin special while another was simply pocket change?

That curiosity never really went away.

Years later, I created Numisteria because I saw how difficult the hobby can seem when you're starting out. There's plenty of information available, but it isn't always explained in a way that's easy for a new collector to understand.

That's what I wanted Numisteria to do differently.

I'm August Keene, the author behind Numisteria and Numisteria Press. My goal is to take what can sometimes feel like a complicated hobby and explain it the way one collector might explain it to another.
